The "Maiden Tribute" Print Pack
It is not always possible or practical to view documents online, and at such times a "hard copy" of a document is indispensible, especially in the classroom. To facilitate this, I have compliled the Maiden Tribute Print Pack, a selection of documents from the WTSRS which, in my view, are integeral to any study of Stead's most famous crusade. Contents include:
- An introductory article, "W. T. Stead & the Virgin Trade: A Special and Secret Commission of Inquiry" (first published in The Journal of the Whitechapel Society in June, 2005)
- An A4 facsimile of the first page of a PMG "Maiden Tribute" issue
- A full transcrition of the Maiden Tribute articles &c, all transcribed from Pall Mall Gazette original issues.
- Extracts from Stead’s speech on August 21, 1885, at St. James’s Hall, London.
- Selected Old Bailey court transcripts from the Eliza Armstrong Case.
- Extracts of Stead's own reminiscences of the Maiden Tribute crusade.
- "Bishop Frazer on the Social Evil", a relevant leader from the Northern Echo (1871-85)
- A bibliograpghy of recommended works pertaining to the Maiden Tribute.
